Commissioning A Print

1. You provide the subject

The first thing you must do is to choose the photograph of your pet that you want me to work from. I will stick to that image as faithfully as I can so as to get a good likeness. If you send me a photo of your pet’s face in close-up with its back legs looking tiny and far away, that’s what you will get in the print! So choose carefully.

2. Sizes and prices

I offer two basic sizes of print,  A 4 and A 5.

And I offer two types of print, plain (monochrome) or coloured

Some subjects will look better in a shape that is different from A4 or A5 which we can discuss; but this offers a simple price structure

A 4  coloured         £100

A 4  monochrome £50

A 5  coloured         £60

A 5 monochrome  £30

3. What do I provide? I provide the prints

Accompanying photos and videos show what I do in making a print for you. That is mainly what you are paying for. That work results in a number of prints which is what I will send you, usually an edition of five. If you want more than five, just say so and I can provide that, with or without a small extra charge according to the complexity of the image.

My coloured prints are made by the reduction method (see video) in which the block is progressively cut away until the last colour is printed. There is no going back. This makes the finished prints the only ones available in the world (truly a limited edition). It also means that you really must decide before the process begins how many prints you want in your edition.

There is a great deal more work involved in making further colour prints than in monochrome ones; each print goes through the printing process four or five times whereas each monochrome print requires only one printing.

Monochrome usually means black-and-white unless the subject looks better in a colour. The block is not destroyed in the process so you can change your mind and decide on the number of prints you want after you have seen the result in the first proof.
